Point Spread

Point Spread is a type of bet used in handicap betting, particularly in American sports like NFL and NBA, where a bookmaker assigns a margin that the favorite must win by for the bet to be successful.

For example, if the point spread is -6.5 for Team A:

  • Team A -6.5 means they must win by 7 or more points to cover the spread.
  • Team B +6.5 means they can lose by up to 6 points or win for the bet to win.

Point spread betting evens the playing field by giving the underdog an advantage and the favorite a challenge to cover. If the spread is a whole number and the result lands exactly on it (e.g., Team A -6, final score 30-24), it results in a push, and the stake is refunded.
