Starting Price

Starting Price (SP) refers to the official odds of a horse or greyhound at the moment the race begins. It is determined by the average odds offered by on-course bookmakers just before the race starts.

If you place a bet at SP rather than taking a fixed price, your payout is based on whatever the odds settle at when the race begins. Some bookmakers offer Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG), meaning if the SP is higher than the price you took, you get the better odds. SP betting is common in horse racing and greyhound racing when bettors expect odds to drift for better value.
