Steamer
Steamer refers to a selection whose odds shorten significantly due to a high volume of bets being placed on it. This usually indicates strong betting support, often from sharp money or professional bettors.
For example, if a horse is priced at 10.00 (9/1) in the morning but drops to 5.00 (4/1) before the race, it is considered a steamer. The movement suggests that bettors believe it has a much better chance of winning than originally estimated by bookmakers.
Steamers can result from inside information, form analysis, or betting syndicates backing the selection. However, not all steamers win, and sometimes bookmakers adjust odds to protect against liabilities.
