Underdog
Underdog refers to a team, player, or competitor that is considered less likely to win according to bookmakers and public opinion. The underdog is given higher odds compared to the favorite, offering a larger potential payout if they win.
For example, if Team A is priced at 5.00 (4/1) and Team B at 1.50 (1/2), Team A is the underdog because their chances of winning are lower. In spread betting, the underdog is given a points handicap (e.g., +6.5 in American football) to balance the competition.
Betting on underdogs can be high-risk, high-reward, and experienced bettors look for value in underdog bets, especially in unpredictable games where the perceived probability might be miscalculated by bookmakers.
