Yearling

Yearling is a term primarily used in horse racing to describe a young horse that is one year old, typically between January 1st and December 31st of its first full year of life.

Yearlings are too young to race but are often sold at yearling sales, where breeders and owners buy them based on pedigree, conformation, and potential for future success. These horses are usually trained for racing at two years old or older, depending on their development.

While yearling is not a common betting term, understanding horse ages is important for evaluating form, breeding, and betting on horse racing events.
